On Wednesday, March 1st, both ELO students and CTE students attended a field trip at the BIW Training Academy in Brunswick. It was a fun, interactive and impactful experience for our students. Once we arrived, we were directed to a classroom for a brief presentation on BIW's history and career opportunities. Next, we toured their welding training facility, learning all aspects of welding. From there, we visited their Virtual Reality Center, where students had the opportunity to virtually paint a ship, operate a crane and forklift, perform some welding and virtually be on a worksite (they called Ironman). The VR Center was the most popular feature of the field trip, just an exceptional opportunity for our students. We are very appreciative of BIW and their staff for hosting us and we look forward to our next visit!
