Principal's Message
We have been busy this month on Shipbuilder Drive and are looking ahead to some great things coming our way!
March brings our spring parent-teacher conferences on March 26th and 27th (next week). Parents/Guardians received invitations to teachers’ conference slots a couple of weeks ago. Parents are welcome to schedule in-person or remote conferences. If you are cannot find the email or are having difficulties signing up, please reach out to teachers or school counselors directly.
MPBN has been at Morse for three days over the past month, creating a piece for Maine Public Television on the Unified Programming that is offered at Morse. This was an excellent opportunity for our programs to show off what we do, from Unified Academics to Athletics, and Best Buddies - I am sure Maine Public will create a fantastic piece that will showcase the great work of our students and faculty.
Speaking of Unified and Best Buddies, there were many opportunities this month. From a state-wide Robotics competition to competitive Basketball and the Best Buddies Prom, you will find more about these events later in this newsletter.
As the members of the Class of 2026 formalize their plans for next year, our underclassmen are also starting to make plans. Morse teachers have made recommendations for their current students, and individual meetings are occurring between students and their school counselors.
The transition process has begun for the incoming ninth-grade class (the Class of 2030!). We have held an evening parent and student meeting, and Morse school counselors are currently conducting individual meetings with all students and parents as they prepare for the transition to Morse. We will have a Step-Up Day in late May, and the first day of school next year will be for grade nine students only.
Morse held our annual Freshman Awareness Program on March 9 & 10 at Hyde School and Bowdoin College. This program involves a pause of regular academics, when we take the ninth-grade class off campus, and focus on resilience, goals, and obstacles that can hinder students’ progress during this critical period of their lives.
Most of the winter Morse Athletics programs were complete at the time of the February Navigator, with the exception of our Swimming and Diving programs and Unified Basketball. Here is what has happened since:
-
The Unified Basketball team completes their season on Tuesday, March 17th. Over 35 students from Morse High School participate in the program. The team was able to play in front of a nearly full gym when they took on Medomak Valley in early March. We also were able to have PBS in attendance for the game!
-
At the MPA Class B State Swim and Dive Championships - our girls team placed 7th of 14 teams. With a small team of only 5 qualified athletes - our girls competed hard and represented themselves very well!
-
At the MPA Class B State Swim and Dive Championships - our boys team won their second consecutive state championship! The team was in a full day battle with Greely and Ellsworth for the top spot. With 5 events to go - our Builders built a comfortable lead and didn't look back!
-
Our 4x200 Freestyle Medley Relay of Senior Brady Chubbuck, Junior Caden Wells, Sophomores Max Couture, and Cam Griffey were a part of the relay. They swam a 1:29.01 - which was a Class B Meet record
-
Junior Fletcher McDonough won the Class B State Diving Championship with a score of 465.2! This was also a Class B State meet record
-
The big news this week comes out of the Montgomery Theater, where our spring musical performance, Jekyll & Hyde opens this TODAY! Ms. Coleman, Ms. Foreman, Mr. Anderson, and the entire cast and crew have been working incredibly hard on the production; it is sure to be another outstanding performance. There are three performances this weekend: one at 7:00 PM on Friday and Saturday and a 2:00 PM show on Saturday. Good luck to the cast and crew and I hope to see you there!
Sincerely,

Principal
